Kapa Haka Time!!!!

 Last week moana syndicate (that's me!) finally filmed our Kapa Haka performance. We decided to film in the hall, Koka Brodies partner, Canaan is a photographer. So he had all his fancy gear ready to film us. To be honest it was super scary having all these cameras staring you down.

This year I was in the front row and I was thrilled! I tried and tried to stay there and the teachers had noticed. Our bracket had quite a few new song such as Ka Waiata, Ka Panapana and Toia mai. I had tried to learn these songs at home and it payed off!

I had always found the poi tricky, but lately I feel like I have got the hang of all the moves in E Rona. My favorite move in the poi was when the front row went on the ground (sitting) and the second row stood on their knees. I thought Klara did an awesome job leading E Rona.

My favorite song was easily Toia Mai, its such an up beat song with fun actions and words. Kapanapana was a real challenge for us to learn, it was about the volume, the breathing and the actions.

The whole performance was easily my best I have ever done and i'm super proud of the effort I put in. And on top of that I achieved my goal! On the stage I felt proud to show all the hard work that we put into our bracket. We even made the principal cry!

Ilminster Green Team

 Today we caught a bus and headed to Ilminster (my future school). We went to watch the Green Team preform a awesome play about why littering is horrible, and why we should Do the 3 R's (Reuse reduce recycle).  

The play was about 2 little koura (crayfish), a nana koura (nana crayfish), skater kids, aliens and a robot! the two koura were asking their nana to tell them stories about her as a young koura. She started telling them the story of her stopping the aliens from trash planet turning earth into a rubbish into a dump like planet trash. 

The alien king had sent out his guards to find a new rubbish dump on earth, they ended up finding the perfect place... The skate park! After dumping all their rubbish there the king says to chuck out the robot, so the left him in the pile of rubbish and he hides there, until... the kids come and try to move the rubbish but they get electrocuted. They end up finding the robot and demanding him to call the king. 

The king got quite frustrated but ended up making his way down, the kids tried to debate that the skate park should not be the rubbish dump for the aliens, but the king just ignored them and called the mothership to bring them back to planet trash. Later the kids go up to Nana koura to get her help, but she refuses, after a while of begging she says ok and then they get the robot to call the aliens.

The king came down again quite frustrated but his mood quickly changed when he saw Nana Koura, THE KING THOUGHT NANA KOURA WAS THE LOST KING KOURA!!! When she told him to pack up the rubbish he got straight to work. In no time the rubbish was completely gone!

I cant wait to audition for the green team when it comes to auditioning. The play made me feel like i need to take responsibility and do the three R's, Reduce, reuse and recycle! On message to self: don't litter like the trash aliens and end up living in a dump literally and figuratively.

Speeches

 This term we are doing our speeches!! I love doing our speeches because you get to stand up and persuade people that my opinion is right and that I am right. THis term my speech topic is Going For Gold In Achieving Your Goals . I am arguing that you should go for gold and achieve your goals and how you should go about it. Here is my speech:

Arthur Ashe once said

Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can,”

  We all have goals in life that we set out to achieve.

 I believe we all have the ability to achieve these life goals.

 It's just a matter of using what we were given and go for gold to achieve the best we can.

 That's where this quote resonates with me.

Start where you are. 

Starting where you are is key,

like all things in life you need a starting point.

 If you start from where you are you can understand your strengths and weaknesses

 then you can work out a mental plan as to where you need to go next to achieve your goal.

Finding the start is stopping and looking around you to find the starting track. 

It is often thought that you have to go somewhere and then you can finally begin but actually all you need to do is start right where you are and go from there. 

Start with something that is achevibal, 

something easy 

and then work your way up to bigger goals 

that will require knowledge, preservarencie and determination.

Use what you have.

 We all have things that are unique

 and those things are the reasons we are different from everyone else, 

all we have to do is embrace that we are different and use those as our superpowers to go for gold. 

Use your surroundings to help you reach your goal, 

if there is something you need,

 set a goal to get that or make do without it.

Arthur Ash became the first and remains the only African/American tennis player to win the U.S. Open and Wimbledon singles titles, (famous world tennis comp), 

He used his skills and proved just because he's different he can still go for gold and achieve his goals.

 Use your knowledge that you have now to elaborate and learn more to go for gold.

 Obviously over time you will obtain the right tools and skills you will need to go for gold.

Do what you can. 

In life to achieve goals and go for gold you can only ever do what you can,

 but you also have a voice to say

 “this is what is happening".

 You should do your absolute best in everything that you do to show that you are worth the support and value

Doing what you can can also mean helping others with their goals,

 their goals can become your goals to achieve.

 You have the power of all of your decisions and choices,

 the goals and things you take up

 and the things that you do. 

You can make change in someone

, something, or the world

All of our goals are achievable and are worth achieving

. Goals are part of life

 you are going to have to make one somewhere in your life. 

So remember whether you are smarter, 

Faster,

 Taller

 or more popular

 doesn't mean your goals are easier or harder than anyone elses to achieve

, at the end of the day make sure you go for gold.

6 Sentences Only!!!???

In L3 writing  our teacher challenged us to write a whole story, but there was a catch the story had to be 6 sentences long. My story was about an isolated horse without any friends. The story goes like this:

Once upon a time there lived an isolated horse who longed to have friends.

She lived in a massive field in the middle of nowhere!

This horse used to be the ultimate show jumping horse she even competed at the olympics.

Everyday she would dream her owner would come and visit her or even get her a new friend, it never happened though.

Friendless is the best way to describe the way that she felt.

One day as a wild herd came past she decided to leap the fence and join them and she lived happily ever after.

IT'S A CRAZY CIRCUS (part 2)

 Yesterday was the rhythmical dance performance. I'm going to tell you all about it, so let's start from the top. I didn't know how I was going to get to the gymnasium because I was the only rhythmical girl that was not doing grade, so I had no way to get there! I had to hunt down the teacher that was incharge of the gym festival, so I could see how I was getting there. I asked, she said I would have to catch a ride with the graders parents. When I got there, I didn't know what to do since my rhythmical performance was not until 11:30 and it was only 9:15! I looked around and saw my friends that did a grade earlier, so I sat with them and watched a school perform.

Lola ordered chips at the stall but she had to wait like for ever to get them because they ran out. Our coach had not turned up yet, but we were playing and waiting where she told us. Ten minutes later she walked around the corner with a huge plastic tub filled with bows and rainbow tutus. She said "get on the chair and I will do your hair". After, she did my hair and put the bow in my hair, I put on a tutu and danced around. We saw the other team enter and start practicing. Some of the other rhythmical girls in our team were doing grade so when we got our turn to practice, there were 8 of us in total. We quickly ran through the dance and went to do it again but the other team asked us if they could have a turn.

A kind lady had asked us to line up at number 4 so we can get ready to go on. It was so nerve racking! Would you be scared? Jax, our coach was on the other side of the tramp so I ran over and gave her a huge hug and thanked her for teaching us the dance. The other team were walking away into the other room so I ran back to the front of our team line and lead them in. By this time I had gotten even more nervous. "These are our 2 primary school rhythmical teams!" Announced Bevan. Mangapapa was first up. As they entered the stage, I was not even one bit nervous now. 5 minutes later, they were done and their dance was amazing!!! It was our turn! We got into position and the music started. It was so hard to skip on the bouncy floor because we went so high! Our dance was so much fun to do. We still don't know who won though... 

Its as crazy circus!

 In gizzy we have a gymnastic festival ever year and there is a rhythmic section which is competitive and i made it into the team. Our theme is circus! If you search up Britney Spears Circus Villains Remix, we have to dance really fast. We get to do flips and learn new trick, its so much fun. The outfits in the photos are our ones we are wearing. Would you audition for the team?

Cooks Cove caterpillar

 As we climbed up the steep lot of of stairs all I could hear was panting and puffing and we had only just started! We were walking up cooks cove in Tolaga to practice for camp that was only one week away! All the year sixes were pumped for camp and we were excited for this walk . We got through the stairs and were nearly at the top to get to the the statue but we had to make it through the steep hill ahead, my group were the first in the big line of year sixes so we had to jog up the hill!

We finally made it to the statue and my group got put at the back. In my group I had Raphi, Alice, Me and Momo. Me and Alice talked the whole time. We started walking the middle part and we started getting puffed and our legs started aching. There was lots of down hills and up hills and because its a farm there was lots of prickles and when I say lots I mean thousands. Once we got to the lookout  thing our teachers and parent helpers took a couple photos and we had a drink and a little read of the sign about captain cook's meetings with maori and his ships crew.

We started to walk down through the bush part but we had to make it down all the stairs without tripping. we were walking down the last lot of stairs, when we got on to the dirt track it had split in two tracks one indof deep down and one when you walk in the low one it is up to your hip and it looked funky! We got close to a bridge but we were stopped and shushed and told to look up it took a little bit to find but after a little we saw a... Morepork ! it was so cute we named it Phoenix after my horse. we crossed the little bridge one group at a time and we parked our caterpillar next to the long drop so kids could go to the loo. 

We walked past the hole in the wall and down to where Cook arrived and we had our brain break and talked. we started walking back and stop to look at the hole in the wall and take a photo. We all went in the hole and got called out. then we climbed up the huge hill we just went down but we couldn't see phoenix. we got out of the bush part and it was now all downhill and it didn't  take us that long. When we got back we talked about camp and left.

Kapa haka

We have been practising our kapa haka bracket and we have managed to learn one new song 1, 1 new poe routine and a lot of actions for a song. We have improved massively  From not knowing how to wiri wiri to being experts at wiri wiring.We had a dress rehearsal on monday and we looked sharp in our dresses. I'm so excited for our pupu's they are pretty skirts that look like this:

3D hand art

 This week the year six kids went on camp so we did some 3D hand art. 3D hand art is art that you trace your hand, and then you make the lines straight then when you get to the hand you make a kind of lump, and then you colour in the gaps and you'll get this:

The Monarch Show

On tuesday we walked from our school to the wainui surf club to watch a monarch butterfly show, it was so fun to watch and it was so funny it made me laugh🤣. the play was about monarch butterflies and there was heaps of facts about butterflies, like they eat through their feet ,thats crazy aye.  their colours are orange black and if its a male they have white dots on the ends of their wings. like the one in the picture, that's a male

Pihitia Farm visit

 On tuesday the whole school went to Pihitia Farm and they showed us some of their stations There was trap station, Sheep station, Meat station, Drone and tech station, sheep shearing, machine station and Cow station ,the meat one was pretty yuck because they cut up a raw and dead lamb in front of us, yuck aye. It was really fun. At the drone Norm was flying round and telling us that a man called bobby and he went out on the motorbike that morning and that he had not come back and we should look on their barn t.v and we watched the screen, then we saw something we took a closer look and we saw it was a flipped over and a man was under... It was fake, it was a trick the whole thing. We were so relieved.

Going Down The Beach For LTP

 On monday moana syndicate went to the beach instead of the normal LTP at school. Our school is right over the road to the beach we just cross the crossing and turn right when we see the pathway towards the beach then we're there! The beach is sooo fun.Josephine, Indie, Rio, Esther and Lila started to braid kids hair and then weave flowers into it. It was sooo pretty. I got my hair done by Rio the first time but then it fell out I was really sad. Then I got Josie to do my hair and it looked amazing. The flowers they put in our hair were freesia flowers and they were yellow ones. The little salon they were doing was really popular they had so many people waiting for their turn to have their hair done.They did really well I think they should open up a real salon someday. Everyone's hair looked so great. I loved going to the beach and I hope we do it some time again. 

My Poppa's Birthday

This weekend it was my Poppa's birthday. they went to napier for the weekend to go shopping and have a cool time there. While they were gone I had the responsibility to feed and make sure the pets were okay the pets were a cat (Her name was missy), And a dog (his name is dug/duggy boy). We made my poppa a present it was a chocolate bar type thing, it was really cool.  While they were away they got me jae and willow some stuff willow got a new jersey and cool lip balm, jae got a t-shirt and a pranks and jokes kit, I got hair ties and some jodhpurs for horse riding. we had a yum dinner then we had a gluten free carrot cake from a cake shop in napier.

Learning makey makey for LTP 

This week I went to makey makey and we first tried to make a lightbulb light up but then we decided to make a piano out of random objects but first we made it out of playdough then we found these cotton balls and connected those to the alligator clips and then we tapped it and then it made a piano sound then we started to find things like pasta, spaghetti, ping pong balls, circuit ball and humans... YES humans, we found that if someone is holding earth and someone is hooked up to the alligator clip if you are holding the earth you can touch the one holding earth, you can tap the nose of the person clipped to the alligator clip and they will make a piano noise. It was awesome.

 

LTP Junky Monkey

 

This week for LearningThroughPlay Me, Esther and Alice went to junky monkey, at junky monkey what your supposed to do is deconstruct and then reconstruct the thing you deconstructed and make it in to a new thing. We had to make stuff out of stuff that had been broken all ready. We ended up doing it with Indie and we had no idea what we were gonna make we kept thinking up ideas to build but then we all had the idea we should build a water park\playground and that's what we ended doing.

We gathered stuff we thought we would need and started destructing first we made this spinny thingy, we made it of a funny green fidget spinner type thing then we found a metal thing you would put bolts and nuts on. There were lots of bolts and nuts on the already so we put some under the fidget spinner type thing and then put two on and didn't tighten them as much. Then we made a trampoline, we put a hair tie over a part of a elsa barbie dolls dress and made it like a trampoline. then we made a pool out of: a hole in the table, silicone cupcake liner, and a small round container and then we put water in the cupcake liner and made a pool.

Indie made some monkey bars then we found peter rabbit holding out a hoop then we found and added that to the park thing we made and then I made a finish sort of sign thing that was made out of a baby toy, pipe cleaner, and a sharpie. We added more than in the video but the video still has the better version than the new parts we added and also the finish sort of sign thing isn't in the video too. If you didn't watch the video yet i think you should.

The Marakai Menus

Me and my friend Esther are trying out for the Marakai. The Marakai is like a cooking competition that we do in at this school. Marakai is a Maori word it means garden food. What we do is you would do a doc of what you are gonna do and how you are gonna make it. me and esther worked together to get our slide done.

Me and Esther want to make baked donuts and pasta salad. You have the option to make a main a sweet or a drink. Me and Esther decided that we wanted to make a main and a sweet the donut are the sweet and the main is the pasta salad. We liked the idea of the Marakai because we get to choose what we make and how we make it.

At your school you might do a cooking competition what do you call it at your school tell me in the comments. At my school we have to include 5 homegrown or schoolgrown things Me and Esther have five things in our pasta salad we have oranges, apples, coriander, lettice, parsley you are probably like what oranges and apple in salad but actually it is pretty good.  I hope we get selected for the Marakai, (that would be pretty cool aye). 

My trip to Napier

In the weekend my family went to napier we stopped on the way at wairoa to have lunch and play at the world's coolest playground(according to me). I had a sausage roll for lunch and a caramel and chocolate slice. Willow chucked food for the sea gulls and they came swooping down in seconds and chased her along the bank then dad shooed them away. We had sooo much fun. The playground had such big slides and this big rocket ship thingy. 

The drive felt like 100,0000 hours but really it was only three. Before we left my brother had a soccer game against mangapapa school and he won! It was 6-0 ,he got the 6 obviously. We went past green cars, yellow cars, red cars, purple cars, lots of blue cars and heaps of white and silver cars. We played the car game, if you've never heard of the car game before you have to pick a color and hope the car that comes round the corner is the color you picked and you count how many cars have come past you on the opposite lane from you and whoever has the most wins the game. In my family who ever won got a special drink at the restaurant for dinner. Me my brother and my sister tied so we each got a drink.

We had to look for the key when we found it the first thing i did was put my phone on the charger because it was at 1 percent. I slept on the hardest bed in the world. we went to kmart and did some shopping i got a new scooter and some new clothes and stuff for our home lots of stuff for our home. The next day we went shopping back at kmart and i got 2 new phone cases a marble one and a glittery one. I enjoyed the trip to napier and i hope we do it again.

My holidays

 In the holidays I did nothing special but I did horse ride a lot and when I say a lot I mean a lot, I horse rode nearly every day. I rode a horse called Peanut she is the horse that I lease. I did it with Maria and Orla they are both older than me. We rode alone at the Lysnar Valley Equestrian. 

I was down there from 9 am to 5 pm thats 8 hours.

 

I would not ride all day that would be cruel, we clean up the halters and gear then we  cleaned the brushes and the tubs.

 We played with the baby goats there were 3 goats Salt, Pepper and Mini, but pepper died because she was not eating and drinking, we think we know why: there was a dead bird in the water and she might of became sick from a disease. But mini jumps on your back when you sit down.

Then we went inside and we ate a apple orla was making funny faces and I started laughing then I started to choke it was funny because maria patted my back really hard and then she started yelling: Ellas gone die, Ellas gone die, Ellas gone die. then we went and rode we rode up winifred and then went in the arena we rode them back to their paddock bareback but with a cover and a bridle then it started to rain. We were getting soaked and all dirty peanut had poop on her cover and I got it on my leg and thigh (it was disgusting). Maria got all wet on her butt.

At the end of the day I am happy that I went nowhere special because I enjoy horse riding as much as going away and shopping.
